In conclusion, the connections
between the musical cultures of the Chinese Erhu and Scottish Fiddle are physical, musical and stylistic. Chinese erhu and scottish fiddle music are both traditional styles in their respective nations and cultures and therefore
carry an extremely prominent role. Both musical cultures utilize the versatility and tone of stringed instruments
to produce music. Several playing techniques are shared by the two musical cultures. All of these connections work together
to create the traditional fiddle sound in both musical cultures yet both musical cultures interpret this style differently.
Through
the analysis of two pieces of repertoire, distinct yet inherently linked, it is made clear that Chinese Erhu Music and Scottish
fiddle music share many qualities. These qualities are visible in different ways in each piece, but when all elements of the
pieces are put together and heard, it is difficult for the listener or educated musician to hear or see the music and not
acknowledge the underlying similarities.
